Festival del Mamertino Doc 2011 in Santa Lucia del Mela On Sunday, december the 18th, there will be the 2011 edition of the Festival del Mamertino, one of the typical wines of Messina, Sicily. The festival will take place in the town of Santa Lucia del Mela, which is famous for the manifacturing of this classic wine, known and drunk even by the ancient romans and by them called "The Wine of the Emperor".
The festival will begin in the morning, when there will be guided tours to the historic and architectural heritage of this hilly town and to the tipical wineries of the zone, running from half past ten in the morning. This opportunity to visit the various tipical places of Santa Lucia has been really appreciated by tourist even on the past editions of the festival. For luch, there will be the change to eat in one of the tipical town restaurants: the special festival menu will displace only dishes of the gastronomic tradition of Messina and Sicily, paired with the wine of the festival. In the afternoon, from half past three, different food and wine stands will open in different locations of the town, where you can taste the tipical dishes of the ancient gastronomical tradition of Messina. There will be even a free animation for all the people there. The Festival del Mamertino, which has been made now for four years, is made with the close participation of the project Strade del Vino of the district of Messina, an enterprise which has been made to protect and appreciate the tipical wines of this zone of Sicily: behyond the historic Mametino, choosen by Giulio Cesare in person, we recall here Faro doc and Malvasia delle Lipari doc, both known internationally.
