Lazio Wine and Wineries, farm holidays
The Lazio region has many Doc areas of production, which yield almost always white wines each with different characteristics because of differences in soil composition.
The most famous zone is the DOC area of the Castelli Romani, which lays in the south-east of Rome, where Frascati, Marino and Castelli Romani Doc are the typical wines. Originated from marshes, the Agro Pontino in recent times is proving a great land for the cultivation of vines, with excellent wines such as Frascati and numerous wines made from native grapes such as Nerobono Cori, the Bellone, Archpriest white, Moscato di Terracina and Greek, all Lazio IGT.
The Ciociaria, which is identified with the hills in the province of Frosinone, is the land of Cesanese Piglio DOCG and Atina Doc. Other production areas are the Tuscia, with Doc Tarquinia, the Colli Etruschi Viterbesi Doc and Colli della Sabina , where homonymous Doc wines are made.
