The Friuli Venezia Giulia has a limited territorial extension and not-mountainous areas apparently suitable for vine growing. Nonetheless it has an ancient winemaking tradition which includes some of the most famous of the world.
There are eight DOC and DOCG areas, all located in the south end of the region between hills and plains near the sea: several fine wines productions such as Ramandolo, the Colli Orientali del Friuli (Eastern Hills of Friuli) in its many varieties, the Collio Bianco and the Isonzo Bianco.
Friuli Venezia Giulia, as many other Italian regions, is an ideal area for a wine tour, combining historical places, unique spots for thier natural characteristics (le colline carsiche) and a wide offer of wine and regional food.
